Only three days after one of her children died of complications from malnutrition, Ramona Bernardo, 26, grieves over the loss and worries about her other three children, like Patricia, 4, who is still vulnerable to their frequent food shortages. Bernardo and her family live at the end of a long dirt road on a "peninsula" of the Dominican Republic that juts into and is surrounded on three sides by Haiti. She fled Haiti years before but has found life here equally as difficult. |
