On a pilgrimage to Mandeville, Jamaica, with a group of American priests, Food For The Poor staff member Janet Rice meets Delores Miller and her 3-month-old baby, Andy, who lived in the tiny one-room shack behind them with seven other children. Donors and staff members alike are encouraged to go on pilgrimage to better connect with the poor that they are serving. Pilgrims bringing their experiences back to the U.S. often redouble their efforts for the poor, now that povery has faces and names. After this trip, the Miller family received a new home, complete with beds, table, couch and propane stove.
